This type of diving requires specialized training due to its complexity compared to regular diving and being a confined environment without direct access to the water's surface. Over the years, we have trained many divers from Israel and around the world for this type of diving, which has given us extensive experience in our wreck diving course. We incorporate years of experience into the training that will be reflected in the excellent skills you will gain from our wreck diving course.

Course Details:
Prerequisites for the Wreck Diving Course:
- Open Water certification and 15 years of age and over for the partial penetration course.
- 10-14 years old with parental consent for the non-penetration course.
- Junior Open Water certification holders cannot participate in penetration activities or dives deeper than 20 meters.
- Divers must hold a Deep Diver specialty or provide proof of experience in dives deeper than 20 meters.
- 25 logged and signed dives in the dive log.
Structure and Duration of the Wreck Diving Course:
Students must complete 3 dives with full briefing and debriefing by the instructor. Dive planning must include surface intervals, no decompression time, etc. The dives must be documented in the logbook. An additional partial penetration dive must be completed. SDI allows instructors to structure the course at their discretion, based on the participating students and their skill level.
Required Equipment for the Wreck Diving Course:
- Open water diving equipment as detailed earlier in this manual.
- Reel.
- Visual and audible signaling device.
- Pony tank.
Wreck Diving Course Lesson Outlines:
- Motivation: Why dive wrecks? Advantages. Beauty. Mystery. One man's trash is another man's treasure. Fun!
- Surface descent and support lines. Size. Material. Surface support: Communication as needed. Backup procedures.
- Buddy system: Contact with buddy. Contact in variable visibility. Buddy lines. Signs on lines. Buddy location in close proximity.
- Navigation/Maps: Use of slate: Larger than usual. Markings before the dive. Pre-dive planning using maps and other information. Decision on direction. Loss of direction: With or without a buddy. Loss of buddy. Broken flashlight. Emergency procedures.
- Special equipment: Flashlights: Primary and backup. Size. Burn time. Use.
- Knives and cutting tools.
- Limited visibility diving: Silt Out. Psychological aspects. Use of flashlights. Importance of primary and backup lights. Night vision - do not blind your buddy.
- Ropes and reels: Types of ropes. Knots. Waypoints for navigation. Rope and reel handling will be practiced on land before performing the skill underwater.
- Special emergency procedures: "Safe" wreck - like a regular dive, but with consideration for limited surface access in some cases. Hazardous wrecks: Avoid.... Do not enter blocked doors. Entry restrictions.
- Wreck mapping: Vertical. Horizontal. Identification of features. Risk analysis.
Skill Performance Requirements and Course Completion Requirements:
Students must complete the following skills in open water. Dives 1 and 2 are for non-penetration certification. Dives 3 and 4 are for partial penetration certification:
Dive 1: Wreck Diving Course
- Review of dive computers - before the dive. Dive planning. Flashlight check. Familiarization with the area. Basic mapping outside the wreck. Use of ropes outside the wreck. Exit and documentation of the dive in the logbook.
Dive 2: Wreck Diving Course
- Dive planning. Surface interval calculation. Descent. Completion of team mapping and risk analysis. Air management and teamwork. Exit and documentation of the dive in the logbook.
Dive 3: Wreck Diving Course
- Dive planning. Descent. Use of ropes outside the wreck. Exit and documentation of the dive in the logbook.
Dive 4: Wreck Diving Course
- Dive planning. Dive briefing. Diving and exploration as planned. Use of ropes inside the wreck. Full penetration of the wreck. Exit and documentation of the dive in the logbook.
Dive 5: Wreck Diving Course
- Skills improvement at the instructor's discretion
