SDI Assistant Instructor Course 

The SDI Assistant Instructor course is the second and final step before the Instructor course. This course turns you into a dive leader with instructional skills. This course is designed for you to gain practical teaching experience with a Divemaster Trainer or active SDI Instructor.

You will be trained to assist a dive instructor in teaching the Open Water Diver course, Advanced Adventure Diver course, and Rescue Diver course. Your instructor will also train you to prepare theoretical lesson plans and classroom presentations. Deliver academic presentations in the classroom and general dive management techniques.

Upon completion of the SDI Assistant Instructor course, you will be able to:

• Teach and certify trainees in the Skin Diver course.
• Conduct a refresher dive (Inactive/Refresher).
• Conduct an introductory dive for non-certified divers.
• Administer a knowledge test in the Open Water course under the supervision of an active instructor.
• Assist an active SDI Instructor during approved diving courses, provided that the activities are similar to those that the certified diver has already practiced.
• Supervise and conduct dives for certified divers, provided that the activities are similar to those that the certified diver has already practiced.

A Divemaster with additional training in specialty diving instruction can go on to teach and certify the following specialty courses:

• Boat Diver
• Computer Diving
• Equipment Maintenance
• Underwater Video Diver
• Underwater Photography
• Cylinder Inspector
• First Aid and CPR
• Emergency Oxygen Provider

Additional Notes

• The course covers a wide range of topics, including dive theory, skills, and procedures.
